Description
While normative samples are used to guide our inferences about the general population, they don’t stay fresh forever. Do you know when it’s time to update and how? What happens when these normative samples change based on time, demographic consideration, major external factors… like a global pandemic? Best practice in assessments and psychometrics is to be open and honest with our users as to whether changes may or may not have occurred and if it warrants a new norm. But an updated normative sample can also be accompanied by garnered confidence from customers in staying up-to-date, modernizing the test, including nuanced demographic considerations to the scores, such as gender-based norms or local versus regional/national norms, and effective implementation can signal the test publishers’ flexibility and technical prowess.

The goal of this session is to discuss the critical lens you should apply within your organization to examine why, when, and how normative samples should be updated.
